A PowerPoint presentation highlighting the National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA) Certification Program will be given, followed by a live “hands-on” demonstration with Pervious Concrete.
Pervious concrete is a unique and effective means to address important environmental issues and support green, sustainable growth. By capturing stormwater and allowing it to seep into the ground, it naturally filters pollutants on its way back into the ground, recharging the groundwater supply and reducing stormwater runoff. This meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stormwater regulations. In fact, the use of pervious concrete is among the Best Management Practices (BMPs) recommended by the EPA – and by other agencies and geotechnical engineers across the country – for the management of stormwater runoff on a regional and local basis. This pavement technology creates more efficient land use by eliminating the need for retention ponds, swales, and other stormwater management devices. In doing so, pervious concrete has the ability to lower overall project costs on a first-cost basis.
Most pervious concrete jobs require certified technicians. A pervious concrete class with placement demonstration will be held at our West Chicago location on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 from 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The class instruction will include a PowerPoint presentation referencing the certification textbook. Areas that will be covered include proper procedures to place, compact, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect pervious concrete pavements. Classroom instruction will be followed by a hands-on demonstration.
If you would like to be certified as a NRMCA Pervious Concrete Technician, the Illinois Ready Mix Concrete Association (IRMCA) will offer a written exam at the end of this demonstration.
The cost of this certification exam is $200.00 per person. This is the fee charged by IRMCA for the certification exam only. If you do not want to be certified you are not required to take the exam. The class and demonstration are still free.
(Prairie will reimburse you for the $200.00 certification fee when you get a pervious concrete job and place a minimum order of 10 cubic yards of pervious concrete with Prairie.)
